The SD1

The SD1 is a Class 8 truck designed from the ground up and includes full, aerospace-level system redundancy and the lowest drag coefficient of any similar truck on the road. This efficiency is achieved by a complete redesign of the truck that starts with removing the human onboard.

01

Make it an EV

The first step in decarbonizing the freight transportation industry is to start with electromobility. Solo AVT’s entire approach to building a Class 8 truck is different because of the simple fact that we are starting with a battery-electric powertrain. We’re not replacing a diesel powertrain with batteries; we’re starting fresh and that changes everything from the truck’s design to the entire freight transportation industry.

02

Maximize Efficiency & Safety

For the SD1 to achieve 500+ miles of range as a Class 8 truck means we need to think about every last kilowatt of efficiency. We are rethinking every facet of the truck: gear meshing, brake design, battery system layout, and aerodynamics; every decision we make is focused on maximizing efficiency and building the safest, greenest truck ever built with the kind of systems redundancy found only in aerospace. No one has done what we’re doing when it comes to safety. By building redundant systems, we greatly reduce the points of failure to create the safest autonomous truck platform ever.

03

Enable Autonomy

The SD1 is built for an autonomous driver. Our truck has no driver’s seat, gauge cluster, windshield, or steering wheel; there’s no human driver inside the SD1 at all and that allows us to achieve levels of efficiency and safety unlike any truck on the road today. Moreover, the SD1 is software agnostic. It can accommodate any autonomous driver, or all of them.

04

Deploy At Scale

We are building the SD1 to safely scale autonomy and electromobility in ways that are simply not possible with today’s existing heavy trucks. The SD1 has a modular design for serviceability to maximum uptime and is designed to ensure turn around times on par with today’s trucks. It is compatible with fast chargers while also being able to utilize existing charging networks. It is also trailer-agnostic – meaning it can haul anything – and is built to integrate with all standard loading docks, and can haul an equivalent weight to today’s Class 8 trucks.
